The sizes published on the site
These are the sizes the pieces publish, in the catalogue's own words:
The size is written as a single figure in centimetres, without saying what exactly it measures. The piece end to end, or one dimension of it. That is the only thing the catalogue states, and this page will not add a number of its own to it: if what that figure means for your height is your question, measure yourself with a tape as below, or talk to us before ordering and we will tell you.
The size you pick at checkout is one of the sizes above, next to the quantity. Here is every piece with its size and its price:
How to measure yourself with a tape
Everything here is in centimetres, and an ordinary tailor's tape is all you need. Three measurements decide a graduation gown, and they take two minutes, and if you are measuring someone else, let them stand while you hold the tape:
- height: stand straight with your back to a wall, no shoes, and run the tape from the top of the head all the way down to the floor.
- the length you want: from the top of the shoulder, straight down, to the point you want the gown to stop at. Below the knee, longer, or shorter. This is the number that matters most here, because it is the one that differs from person to person.
- shoulder width: from the tip of one shoulder to the other, and optional. You take it if you want the gown to fall a little wider or narrower. The gown itself is loose and open, so the width you see in the photographs is the width the piece has.
- and if the order is a child's: the same three, measured without bulky clothes with the child standing straight, and written down in centimetres as well.
And one thing that matters about measuring by height
The figure you take from the top of the shoulder downwards is what decides how a gown looks, not your height on its own. Two people of the same height can want the gown below the knee and above it. Both are right, and their numbers differ. That is why we ask for the length you want, and take your height as well, for reference.
And none of this has to do with weight
A gown is not a closed garment: it sits on the shoulders and falls away from the body, and it has no fitted chest, no fastening and no belt to set how wide it is. That is why there is no weight-based size chart for a graduation gown here. Weight does not convert into a size in this garment, length and width do. And if you want the gown wider or narrower than the photographs, tell us before ordering and we will agree the details.
And the size of the cap and the stole?
Neither of these is sized by height: the cap goes on the head and the stole wraps around the neck and hangs down the gown. The cap is one size that fits the usual adult and child head size, and the stole is one size as well. The wearer's height changes nothing about them, because they are not measured to the wearer in lengths.
And the name and the printing do not change with the size
The area the name has is measured with a tape on the piece itself, not on the body of the wearer, and these are the figures the catalogue states, the same figures the studio turns into the print file:
So whatever you measure and choose, the name's area stays the same: you see the name in the studio on the piece at its real size, inside exactly that measured area. And if you want to know how the name is produced, and what differs between printing and embroidery, these are the pages that explain it: printing vs embroidery, the gown with a name, the full set.
And if the published size is not the one you need?
What the site publishes is the size above, and the size you pick at checkout is one of them. And because we do not publish a size chart that is not built on a real measurement, you will not find an invented height-and-weight table on this page. You will find exactly what we have. Orders outside the published size are agreed with us before ordering:
Does the stage change the size? Yes. Nursery/KG stole only. Primary and preparatory the full set. Secondary and university school or faculty colours. The full guide is in one page: Graduation stage guides
- a length longer or shorter than the published one, or a different width: tell us the figure you measured with your tape and we will agree the details before you order.
- a school order or a whole class: the sizes and the quantities are arranged with us, and every student gets their own size.
- a child's or a nursery size: that is agreed with us before ordering as well, and the same for a whole KG class.
Send us the piece, the quantity and the measurements you took, and we will tell you the details and the price before anything is booked. Send the measurements
